Chemical solvents and supplies

• Dry Cleaning Fluid
• Mild Liquid Dish Detergent

• Scoop up and blot as much of the spill as possible. Vacuum up any dry particles.
• Apply the cleaning solution to the stain area. Note exception: Do not apply dry cleaning
  fluid directly to carpet. Apply first to cloth and use cloth to apply to carpet. Work from the outside of the stain
  toward the center.
• Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the spill for at least five minutes.
• Blot with a clean white cloth until no more stain transfers to the cloth. Do not rub the stain area or you might
  damage the carpet fibers.
• Rinse with cold water. Be sure all cleaning solution is removed from carpet.
• If you can still see the stain, repeat the process until either the stain is removed or the stain no longer
  transfers to the cloth.
• If the stain remains, mix 1/4 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap with one cup warm water, and follow the same protocol
  above. If the stain persists after trying each solution listed, contact

• Once the stain is removed, place layers of white paper towel on the site to absorb any moisture. Weigh down
  the towels with a non-staining glass or ceramic object. You can let them sit overnight.
• When the carpet is completely dry, vacuum to restore the texture.

Disclaimer Caution: Never mix chlorine bleach with ammonia – fumes are hazardous.

• Remove as much of the stain as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife, then
  neutralize with an ammonia solution (1 tablespoon of clear household ammonia to 1/2 cup of water.) Saturate spot
  with the ammonia solution using a spray bottle. Do not wet backing. Blot with a white paper towel to remove excess
  moisture.
• Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a
  mild hand dishwashing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 litre of water.) Use a blotting motion
  to work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent and blotting with a
  white paper towel until spot is removed.
• Rinse with tap water using a spray bottle, blot to remove excess moisture. Ensure that solution is completely removed.
• Spray lightly with water, do not blot this time; apply pad of paper towels and brick and allow to dry.
• If there is still some stain on the carpet and blotting is not removing it, then moisten the tufts in the stained
  area with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Let stand for one hour. Blot and repeat until carpet is stain free. Light will cause

• Remove as much of the foreign material as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife.
• Apply rubbing alcohol to a clean white cloth, white paper towel or cotton ball. If the spot extends deep into the
  pile use a blotting motion until the spot is removed or no colour is transferred to the cloth. Do not allow the alcohol
  to penetrate into the backing as this will destroy the latex bond. If the spot is on the surface only, rub in one
  direction at a time. Never use a circular motion to remove the spot as this may destroy the texture. Stop if spot is
  removed. If not, continue with the next step.
• Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a hand
  dishwashing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 litre of water.) Use a blotting motion to work the

NOTICE

These solutions contain chemicals that may permanently alter the colour of your carpet. You should follow the
procedures below to make sure that all of the chemical is removed from your carpet to prevent further damage.

Chemical solvents and supplies

• Ice Cube
• Iron
• Dry Cleaning Solvent
• Carpet Shampoo
• Rubbing Alcohol

• Put an ice cube in a plastic bag and place over the foreign material to harden it.
• Scrape off surface wax with dull knife.
• Cover stained area with several layers of paper towels and press lightly with a
  warm (not hot) iron until all foreign material is removed. Be careful not to melt
  fibers with iron.
• Shampoo, let dry, and then vacuum.
• Some colours, such as red, may leave a dye stain that is difficult or impossible to remove.
• Try applying dry cleaning solvent. Blot using clean towels as long as colour is removed. (Test to products in inconspicuous area.)
• Shampoo to remove dry cleaning solvent.

OR

• Spread brown paper (such as grocery bag) or a terry cloth towel over the area and iron with the setting on “Warm.”
  The wax will be absorbed into the paper or towel.
• Remove any traces with alcohol or dry cleaning solvent.

• 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

• Remove as much of the stain as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife,
  then neutralize with an ammonia solution (1 tablespoon of clear household ammonia to 1/2 cup of water.) Saturate
  spot with the ammonia solution using a spray bottle. Do not wet backing. Blot with a white paper towel to remove
  excess moisture.
• Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a
  hand dishwashing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 litre of water.) Use a blotting motion
  to work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent and blotting
  with a white paper towel until spot is removed.
• Rinse with tap water using a spray bottle, blot to remove excess moisture.
• Spray lightly with water, do not blot this time; apply pad of paper towels and brick and allow to dry.
• If there is still some stain on the carpet and blotting is not removing it, then moisten the tufts in the

• Citrus Based Product

• Freeze the chewing gum using an ice cube in a plastic bag.
• Shatter the frozen chewing gum with a knife handle and vacuum.
• Shampoo. Let dry, and then vacuum.
• Some citrus based products such as De-Solv-It® or Orange-Sol® have been demonstrated to break down the
  stickiness of gum so that it can be removed.

Chemical solvents and supplies

• Isopropyl rubbing alcohol
• Detergent
• 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

• Remove as much of the foreign material as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife.
• Apply rubbing alcohol to a clean white cloth, white paper towel or cotton ball. If the spot extends deep into
  the pile use a blotting motion until the spot is removed or no colour is transferred to the cloth. Do not allow the
  alcohol to penetrate into the backing as this will destroy the latex bond. If the spot is on the surface only, rub
  in one direction at a time. Never use a circular motion to remove the spot as this may destroy the texture. Stop
  if spot is removed. If not, continue with the next step.
• Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a
  hand dishwashing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 litre of water.) Use a blotting motion to
  work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent solution and blotting
  with a white paper towel until spot is removed.
• Rinse with tap water using a spray bottle, blot to remove excess moisture.
• Spray lightly with water, do not blot this time; apply pad of paper towels and brick and allow to dry.

• Let the area dry thoroughly, and then vacuum.
• Repeat if needed.

• Sponge with water; blot until the liquid is absorbed.
• Sponge with rubbing alcohol; blot until the stain disappears or is no longer absorbed into the cloth.
• Sponge with cold water and blot dry to remove the rubbing alcohol.
• If the stain remains, mix one teaspoon of oxygen or non-chlorine bleach with one tablespoon of water. Using an
  eye dropper, apply the bleach solution to the stain. Sponge immediately with water; blot until the liquid is
  absorbed.
• Sponge again with the detergent/vinegar solution.
• Sponge with cold water and blot dry.

• Blot up as much of the stain as is possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife.
  A wet vacuum is useful if a large quantity of liquid (juice) was spilled.
• If spot has dried, saturate the tufts in the affected area with tap water (do not over wet). Allow to remain
  for about 1 minute and blot. If the spot is being removed using water, continue until the spot is completely
  removed. Blot dry and apply the paper towels and brick. If the stain is not completely removed, continue.
• Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a
  hand dishwashing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 litre of water.) Use a blotting motion
  to work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent and blotting
  with a white paper towel until spot is removed.

• If the crayon is soft, freeze it by applying an ice cube wrapped in a small plastic bag, and then scrape off
  the excess crayon.
• Cover the stain with a clean cloth and press, using the tip of a warm iron. Repeat using a clean portion
  of the cloth until all the wax is transferred from the carpet to the cloth.
• If the colour stain remains, sponge the stain with a dry cleaning solvent.

OR

Chemical solvents and supplies

• Dull Knife
• Iron
• Dry cleaning solvent

• Scrape off surface wax with dull knife.
• Cover stained area with several layers of paper towels and press lightly with warm (not hot) iron until all wax
  is removed. Be careful not to melt fibers with iron.
• Shampoo, let dry, and then vacuum.
• Some colours, such as red, may leave a dye stain that is difficult or impossible to remove.
• Try applying dry cleaning solvent according to the product directions.
• Blot using clean towel as long as colour is removed.
• Test cleaning solvent in inconspicuous area to make sure carpet colouring is not removed.
• Shampoo to remove dry cleaning solvent.

• Let the area dry thoroughly, and then vacuum.

• If spot has dried, saturate the tufts in the affected area with tap water (do not over wet). Allow to remain
  for about 1 minute and blot. If the spot is being removed using water, continue until the spot is completely
  removed. Blot dry and apply the paper towels and brick. If the stain is not completely removed, continue.
• Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a
  hand dishwashing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 litre of water.) Use a blotting motion
  to work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent and blotting
  with a white paper towel until spot is removed.
• Rinse with tap water using a spray bottle, blot to remove excess moisture.
• Spray lightly with water, do not blot this time; apply pad of paper towels and brick and allow to dry.
• If there is still some stain on the carpet and blotting is not removing it, then moisten the tufts in the

• Remove as much of the foreign material as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife.
• Using non-flammable dry cleaning fluid or a liquid spot remover, apply the cleaning solution to the stain area.
  Note exception: Do not apply dry cleaning fluid directly to carpet. Apply first to cloth and use cloth to apply to
  carpet. Work from the outside of the stain toward the center.
• Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the spill for at least five minutes.
• Blot with a clean white cloth until no more stain transfers to the cloth. Do not rub the stain area or you might
  damage the carpet
  fibers.
• Rinse with cold water. Be sure all cleaning solution is removed from carpet.
• If you can still see the stain, repeat the process until either the stain is removed or the stain no longer
  transfers to the cloth.
• If the stain persists, mix 1/4 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap with one cup warm water and follow the same protocol

• Remove as much of the foreign material as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife.
• Apply rubbing alcohol to a clean white cloth, white paper towel or cotton ball. If the spot extends deep into the
  pile use a blotting motion until the spot is removed or no colour is transferred to the cloth. Do not allow the alcohol
  to penetrate into the backing as this will destroy the latex bond. If the spot is on the surface only, rub in one

• Work on removing the stain as soon as you notice it. The longer the stain is left on the carpet the greater the
  chances are of the stain setting.
• In every case remove all excess wet or dry material before attempting to clean. Blot wet materials using a white
  terry towel. Vacuum excess dry materials or gently scrape up materials with a spoon.
• Apply a small amount of dry cleaning solvent to the white terry towel and blot the stain. Continue until no
  further transfer of material to the towel is apparent.
• If the stain remains proceed to the next step.
• Mix 1/2 tsp. of dishwashing soap into 1 cup of warm water.
• Apply a small amount, blot or tamp and repeat until the stain is removed. Be patient. Complete removal may require
  repeating the same step several times. Tamp down on the carpet; do not scrub as this may distort the texture of the
  pile.
• Cover the stain with the towel and press down repeatedly to absorb the stain material and detergent.
• Once the stain is completely removed, rinse the area with cold water; blot with a dry white terry towel until all
  moisture is removed. Repeat this process several times to remove cleaning solution residue. (Residue can attract

• Using a clean white cloth, apply the dry cleaning solution to the stain area. Note exception: Do not apply dry
  cleaning fluid directly to carpet. Apply first to cloth and use cloth to apply to carpet. Work from the outside of
  the stain toward the center.
• Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the spill for at least five minutes.
• Blot with a clean white cloth until no more stain transfers to the cloth. Do not rub the stain area or you might
  damage the carpet fibers.
• Rinse with cold water. Be sure all cleaning solution is removed from carpet.
• If you can still see the stain, repeat the process until either the stain is removed or the stain no longer
  transfers to the cloth.
• If the stain remains, mix 1/4 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap with one cup warm water and follow the same protocol

• Mix 1/4 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap with one cup warm water.
• Apply the cleaning solution to the stain area. Work from the outside of the stain toward the center.
• Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the spill for at least five minutes.
• Blot with a clean white cloth until no more stain transfers to the cloth. Do not rub the stain area or you might damage the carpet fibers.
• Rinse with cold water. Be sure all cleaning solution is removed from carpet.
• If you can still see the stain, repeat the process until either the stain is removed or the stain no longer transfers to the cloth.
• If the stain remains, mix 2 tablespoons white vinegar with 4 cups warm water and follow the same protocol as above.

Disclaimer

Caution: Never mix chlorine bleach with ammonia – fumes are hazardous.

• Remove as much of the stain as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife, then
  neutralize with an ammonia solution (1 tablespoon of clear household ammonia to 1/2 cup of water.) Saturate spot with
  the ammonia solution using a spray bottle. Do not wet backing. Blot with a white paper towel to remove excess moisture.
• Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a
  hand dishwashing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 litre of water.) Use a blotting motion to
  work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent and blotting with a
  white paper towel until spot is removed.

• White vinegar

• Blot up any excess material with clean towel.
• Mix 1/4 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap with one cup warm water.
• Apply the cleaning solution to the stain area. Work from the outside of the stain toward the center.
• Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the spill for at least five minutes.
• Blot with a clean white cloth until no more stain transfers to the cloth. Do not rub the stain area or you might
  damage the carpet fibers.
• Rinse with cold water. Be sure all cleaning solution is removed from carpet.
• If you can still see the stain, repeat the process until either the stain is removed or the stain no longer
  transfers to the cloth.
• If the stain remains, mix 2 tablespoons white vinegar with 4 cups warm water and follow the same protocol above.

• Remove as much of the foreign material as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife.
• Apply rubbing alcohol to a clean white cloth, white paper towel or cotton ball. If the spot extends deep into the
  pile use a blotting motion until the spot is removed or no colour is transferred to the cloth. Do not allow the
  alcohol to penetrate into the backing as this will destroy the latex bond. If the spot is on the surface only, rub in
  one direction at a time. Never use a circular motion to remove the spot as this may destroy the texture. Stop if spot
  is removed. If not, continue with the next step.
• Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a

• Iron
• Dry Cleaning Solvent
• Carpet Shampoo
• Rubbing Alcohol

• Put an ice cube in a plastic bag and place over the foreign material to harden it.
• Scrape off surface wax with dull knife.
• Cover stained area with several layers of paper towels and press lightly with a
  warm (not hot) iron until all foreign material is removed. Be careful not to melt
  fibers with iron.
• Shampoo, let dry, and then vacuum.
• Some colours, such as red, may leave a dye stain that is difficult or impossible to remove.
• Try applying dry cleaning solvent. Blot using clean towels as long as colour is removed. (Test to products in inconspicuous area.)
• Shampoo to remove dry cleaning solvent.

• Spread brown paper (such as grocery bag) or a terry cloth towel over the area and iron with the setting on “Warm.”
  The wax will be absorbed into the paper or towel.

  of the spill to the center to prevent spreading and allowing solution to remain on the spill a few minutes.
  Be patient. Blot.
• Continue to use the first agent as long as there is a transfer of the spill to the cloth. Be patient. Complete
  removal may require repeating the same step several times. Or, you may need to move to the next solution.
• When the spill is completely removed, rinse the area with cold water; blot with a dry cloth until all moisture is
  removed.
• A dry, absorbent, cleaning compound may be used as a substitute to minimize drying time.
